98C VS. A-5

me and my friends have been arguing over this topic for like a year now. which gun is best.

A5:
ballbreaks, airleaks around the tombstone and a hundreds of more issues.

do not buy it. its buggy as hell. also their flatlinebarrel. looks good - makes no sense and is annoying like the a5.


got my a5 three weeks ago, leaks air, ballbreaks, waaaay too expensive for such a stressy gun.
will sell it for 50% off to get it out of my sight after tippmann repaired that piece of crap.

the only great thing about it is the 2 year warranty. you'll need it... very very often...

I was going to buy the a5 because I heard it's much faster and better for indoor arenas and 98 is good for the woods only is this true or does the 98 do just fine indoors

hpa will not work as well for the A5 because its cyclone feed runs on CO2/

I prefer the A5.  Most of the people have said its buggy and things like that.  The only problem ive had with it is that i broke an O-ring when i screwed my tank in.  i just got a new O-ring for 25 cents and it stopped leaking.  I even use CO2 which everyone says is bad.  once again...no problems.  The A5 is easy to take apart, shoots straight, and ive never had it chop a ball.  Some people might say i have the worst setup...but thats simply not true.  A5 4 life     

Yah i dont think it matters what you use.  the cyclone feed runs on whatever you put into the gun.

Incorrect, the A5, like the 98 before it, are both designed to work on either CO2 or compressed air.  (They use pretty much the same internals for the actual operating system.)  However, the valves in both were designed to be CO2 friendly (read up on the CVX valve for this info) as that tended to be the propellant of choice for newer players.  The early A5s did have issues running off of compressed air when accessories were added which required more pressure (such as the Flatline barrel) or increased rate of fire (such as the e-grip).  These issues would manifest as either feeding problems (where the Cyclone failed to fully cycle, low shot velocity, or incomplete cycling of the bolt (as it didn't go back far enough to catch the sear) which resulted in chopping and was sometime blamed on the Cyclone.  The upshot is that these were not the result of the Cyclone being designed for CO2 so much as design problems that were promptly fixed by Tippmann.

With all this said, I do prefer to run my Tippmann's off of CO2.  However, I also like to use response triggers set for high rates of fire and the higher pressures CO2 is generally delivered at in the summer just works better for my purposes.  (On both 98s and A5s.)

I'll bet that would help immensely.  (CO2 seems to normally run in the 1000-1300 psi output range up here during the summer.  (Based on a few random tank checks with my pressure gauge.)
