GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — Two Great Falls parents have been arrested on criminal endangerment charges for allegedly letting their 1-year-old daughter drink orange juice that contained methamphetamine.

Court records say Angela Haas and her husband Lee Haas, who are in their 20s, were arrested Tuesday after a social worker told police the baby tested positive for high levels of the drug. Bail for each parent has been set at $5,000.

The court records say Angela Haas told the social worker the child drank orange juice that was left out after a party in the couple's home the previous night. The parents say they didn't know the juice was laced with the drug, but prosecutors argue the couple did not take the child to the emergency room even after the baby started showing signs of withdrawal and they figured out what it ingested.

The version in the paper went on to quote the parents saying that the child was not taken to the hospital once they realized what happened because they feared "getting in trouble."

On a side note, at the time I linked this, the page contained a link to an article about someone's 12th DUI conviction.

I hate people sometimes, especially when it involves small children/babies. The instance where the mother in Dayton put her newborn in a microwave and one recently where a childs hands were put in boiling water to teach her a lesson for having an accident come to mind.  The arresting officers should be awarded medals for having the ability to restrain themselves from having a blanket party with these individuals in a dark alley. Makes it glaringly obvious that I was not really cut out for a job in law enforcement as I probably would have been convicted of pulling my weapon out and just putting a bullet or 8 into these crap filled skin sacks.

The truly sad part of all of this is that little can really be done to solve the issue. As a school employee, one of my wifes biggest issues is seeing day in and day out kids that are neglected and/or abused. It's heartbreaking watching a child with hope and dreams eventually get beaten down. I was talking to a recently retired principle of the local school one day about why he didn't accept a retire rehire position. Simply put, he said he couldn't take it anymore. Even in our small community we have all sorts of horrifying situations. In one case we have a little girl who was taken from her crackhead mother because the mother at best was allowing nude pictures to be taken of the child and and worst....... Little girl is now developmentally off, they say they suspect she had a mental break of some sort.  We have one situation where a girl in middle school is suspected of being pimped out by her mother. It is truly horrifying at times as to how low humans are capable of sinking.

Essentially, it is a vicious cycle. Quite depressing.

Might have to start drinking at noon today.
