Not really, Either way you will still need about 1" of travel on the bolt. I say just turn your idea into a body for the Ion.

1" of bolt travel equals a few things. Travel for the front bolt added to the chamber dimensions (.681 usually) Also the same 1" travel for the rear bolt in both directions, not to mention "buffer" space behind the rear bolt for the spring compression. Room for the valve which you cant exactly remake and sell, as its patented. Room in front of the valve for the air to transfer to the powertube.

Goes on and on. Cant really shorten a tippy.

A mag could be built very close to the pic, as far as making a lighter design, use a dovetail raill integrated at the bottom of the grip letting you use an adjustable ouput tank. Losing the Palmer's inline.

Mags could be bulit almost to a tee of the pic. But The mini morlocks are hard to come by...

Also you don't have enough room for the batt ,noid and board to fit....

An E-bolt wouldn't work for the design. It would make it about twice as long...

Not trying to be critcal just some input.

Allright! Dang...

I give up on the E-Bolt design (not yelling at you, A53707, just saying). Jeez, I forgot what the original image looked like.

/me flips back 3 pages

Edit: I see where the mag idea is coming from. The X-Valve should make it tolerably light...

yea how about... some how making the bolt wrap around the barrel. Kind of like the UZI. that would bring the barrel back alot. while making the Overall length much shorter.

Id put the battery in the front grip.

1 paintball gun package=$150
1 case of paint=$50
air & entry fee=$15
lighting up newbies all day long= Priceless

make like a type of pneumag, because the battery thing i dont know about with this.  Someone said about putting contacts in the feedneck, but then youd have to modify the hopper.

You know by next week Smart Parts will be introducing there new gun with your ideas, but only more ioner

Nah. Smartparts is too flashy now to make anything as "industrial" as this.
