I agree, but the problem is that not to many in paintball do thoses things...yes compared to USMC or ARMY ITs not "sniping" in the terms  you are decribing...in paintball its differant when everone just hides behind bunkers the whole time

I very rarely see 'everyone' hiding behind bunkers. Games that saturate the field with players leaving no manouver room, yes, but not at games like last months Wraithulu game at RoR.

...as "Paintball snipers" we sneak though enemy lines and give recon, and take out specific targets like a squad leader (in senario games) or just some one who has our team pinned down. using flanking, camo, and crawling manuvers. yes that is all "basic training in the real military (DUH!! ) but those tactics are not often used in paintball.

Which is why veteran players like myself take the time to teach and demonstrate basic skills and tactics...it improves the game for everyone.

<link snipped>

Like i posted before.. is what paint ball snipers do when when no one else is doing that... its about not getting in a firefight  its about getting people out with out being seen. its about one shot, one (OUT) yes anyone can do that (even touney guys with flashy markers) but we make it a point to try to play that way by getting ghille suits (for the right course) and delibratly role play a sniper. OK???

Within scenario roleplaying, maybe, if there is a game reason for a sniper role, depends on how the scenario is written. But that is actually outside the context of generally promoting the concept of a sniper skill within paintball, seperate issue.

It comes down to promoting incorrectly and ineffectively applying skills and tactics. An ambush executed by a lone player has little to no impact on the games outcome. The same ambush executed by even a short squad can dramaticly change force distribution which does effectively impact the potential outcome.

Gillies are a whole nother matter as well. Most of the commercial ones available are poorly designed. They are designed to breakup your outline for a color blind animal in most cases not the human color sensative eye. The commonly used colors actually make you standout against the foloage background not blend in. The ones that are designed to defeat the human eye are designed for use at 200m+ not the 20m-30m engagements ranges common in paintball. I have yet to meet someone on a paintball field that can and has properly customized a gillie for a specific field on a specific day.

there is NO possible way to be a "SNIPER" in the sense that you long ball someone..we all agree on that!!!

What it comes down too is this. It is better for the recball/scenario/big game to adapt and teach small unit tactics and sportsmanship than to promote individual performance. By doing that your promote the growth of the sport.

Look, I don't know why everyone gives these guys who call themselves snipers such guff.  They are simply using "sniper" as a general term for their tactics, which rely on concealment rather than overwhelming firepower.

Myself, a recent convert to the school of hardcore stock player have to rely on fast, agressive tactics on the field to compensate for the shortcommings in rate of fire and ammunition of my marker.

All snipe means (look it up, go ahead) is to fire on an enemy from a concealled position.  The word sniper comes from the name for hunters of the bird the snipe, who used heavy camo to target their prey.  The french gillie's then came along with their suits of the same name, with the purpose of blending not only with the color of the environment, but with the texture and look of folliage.  Three dimensional camo, as you've probably heard many times before, is only so effective because it breaks up the smooth lines of the human form that would otherwise stand out in an environment.  So therefore, gillie suits, while ideally modified for the specific field, aren't entirely necessary.

Additionally, I have met players who have made customized suits, which isn't that hard if you live anywhere near the field, cause the forest near your house most likely has very similar plant life to the area you will be playing in.

My point: To each is own.  You don't need to be militant anti-sniper-type-players, because quite frankly what have the "snipers" ever done to you?

That is, besides criticize the high volume of paint you shoot?  Some of us can't afford to play that way (myself included), and would rather not.

I'd give our statements some creedence...except the gilliesuit comes from the SCOTISH gillies (game keepers/wardens) not the French.

listen, i may be a "n00b" (at only 100 posts) but i may just have as much knowledge as you! frankly, you could be the flippin admin, but that doesnt mean i have to acknowledge everything you say because i only have 1 star!

i support barrel tap's statement. it dosent describe the person, it describes the tactics. the word sniper has developed such a stigma, that people who use it are considered noobs. this is sad. i support snipers mostly, but i also enjoy running around and getting mixed up in the big firefights as much as the next guy. i just prefer being sneaky...that doesnt make me a noob.

honestly, why can't we just all get along.  People arn't going one way or the other.  I don't understand what's wrong with ghillisuits.  It's superior camo.  Just because someone is wearing ghilli doesn't mean they're a "sniper".  I know everyone uses "sniper tactics" but snipers use them more than the common paintballer.  does that make them better? no.  It's a STYLE of play, much like a position on the speedball field.  If snipers didn't excist, why do we have all those articals in magazines?  In scenario events, our "sniper" is actually a recon.  He uses a scope to watch opponents bases and uses one of those JT walkie talkie headset things whitch fit inside his mask to communicate.  He'll take a shot or two at people,  and get them out, but mainly, he just lets his team know when it is safe to raid or not.

i'm not looking foward to getting flamed.  But for the record, i'm not a sniper.

well said thank you,

flame me all you want doesnt change how i want to play. I will still own and get owned in return.  I never once said that im a "Lone wolf" I love working with a squad, i just wish more people do that. I love my ghillie suit. I disagree with any one (including the "Vet" who i respect every thing you have said) about the use on ghillies. in the heat of the fight, its amazing how easy it is to be concield. but i just think that ghillies are fun and will use it when Necessary on the right map.

A drop forword is pretty much the only option besides a remote, I run a rome and love it, personally I don't like them just because how they look. I'm biased since I run a remote I guess :P, anyways man, awesome gun.

im here to solve the common misconception of snipers in paintball. snipers rely on the one shot one kill principle. that does not mean longest shot possible, which may often be required. there is sniping in paintball because you can sneak up on a person and place a paintball anywhere you want. however, there is no LONGBALLING (different from sniping) in paintball, unless you have an apex or a flatline. sniping is good and possible, where as yall are thinking of "longballing" which is silly and not really possible (without an apex or a flatline)

What the hell do you think a "Sniper Rifle" is you dumbass. I've read your other posts and you are completely oblivious that there is no Sniping in paintball.

But nice gat. I think you asked about what barrel to get later on? Well If I was you get  Redz Pepperstick. Mine is sweet, it's a 14 in.

Please for the love of god don't get a flatline.

blah blah blah can i delete my thread already? I think you all are taking me the wrong way...

Nutter look up the work sniper your the dumb ass. heres some help http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=sniper

That is all im saying I DO, in paintball.  I have the gear, I have the gun (just like you all do, mine does NOT shoot better or farther than yours) I just gear my game around a differant way of playing. deploying common tactics that militant snipers and infantry use.  Now just leave it at that
