A shocker would kill any tippmann any day. This is not even worth a poll. All you people who think that a 98 is better are not very knowledgable on paintballing. The shocker is way lighter and way faster. It would not even be a challenge. It would be like target practice.

After having been through some of the ups and downs of paintball, I can tell that "high-end" usually stands for "high-priced", not "high-performance". A 98c will do you find with a few good upgrades. I'm not sure what you have already, but get an anti-siphoned CO2 tank... which you can do yourself. Getting a sring kit or screwing around with the springs of the 98 will change the performance a lot as well. I have an R/T and it hasn't done me justice. It adds weight and tends to really waste gas when you let the gun open up. If you want to spend the money, an upper end HPA tank will give you all the shots you need. Just keep it simple. Electronic markers aren't weather proof, so weather will limit you. Paintball's about having fun first. Save your money for the field

P.S.- If you want a marker that will serve you well and give you something different to play with, go for the A-5. From my friends who've used it, its worth every penny you put into it.

Are you **edited**ing serious!!! A shocker can shoot up to 25+ bps stock!!! A 98 can shoot 13!!! That is not even worth a battle. Even if you hopped up a 98 and hopped up shocker it is still way better. A hopped up 98 can shoot 22+ and a hopped up shocker can shoot 30+. You can't really beat that with a tippmann. Don't get me wrong, tippmann's are great and durable guns. I have one, an A-5, but you just can't compare with a high end Smart Parts like the shocker or nerve. |

I wasn't talking about raw stats. Anyone knows that electro-guns will do the trick every time if all you want is the numbers. But, if you want to play, and your not closing your eyes and letting lose everywhere, it might just be better for him to stick with what he has. At the end of the day, you still have to PLAY the game... That has nothing to do, in my opinion, with bps or operating pressure or the hopper you've got on top of the feed.
For instance, the best game of paintball I ever played was with a 3-4 (maybe 5) year-old tippmann 98c I rented from the field that we were playing in. I got more outs with that thing than I did with my own gun before. And I realized that I was doing better and playing better because the gun had crappy range. Anything beyond 30-40 ft. was anybody's guess with the gun. It forced me to play up front and stay close to the action and it made for some pretty intensing playing action. I come from the philosophy that 13 bps will do as much go for a good player as will the 25 bps of another gun. Once you're past 10 bps, who cares? It's a lot of paint!!! What I'm saying here is that technology really doesn't do as much as the industry wants you to believe. I guess that can be said for a lot of things we buy in life, but paintball's no exception. If you're waiting for 25 bps to kick in and expect to sit behind a tree or charge with full spray, you might find you're hitting the out box faster than you had hoped. |

In the end the shocker will still beat the 98 any day. In woodsball or speedball(definitely). There is no competition. Also if you have a crappy gun you are still at a disadvantage. This is how it is, as you get into paintball you start out with a crappy gun but one that fits your skill level. As you progress and get better at snap shooting and all that **edited** you need to progress your gun and gear as well. If you are skillful enough to play with a shocker and shoot 22 bps on semi, what good is it going to do if you pick to play with a 98 custom or some thing along those lines. That is just stupid. How do you think dynasty and PBX factory got where they are today. They progressed their skill and gear. You dont see them playing with low end guns on the field they play with the very best becasue the are very good at what they do and their gear has proven that also.It doesn't matter what you play(serious competition or recball) you should still always keep your skill and gear up-to-date with each other.

Does that mean spending 100s or 1000s of dollars?? You can do plenty of things on a much lighter budget. Tippman Effect seems to do all right with "low-end" guns. I agree, if you know how to use what you have, then you'll do better on the field. But, that can be applied to any gun. If you know how to use it, you can take on anyone with any gun. I really don't see the difference that you do.
I say give me proof that an expert player who has good knowledge of the "classes" of paintball guns to try and use different markers in more or less the same situations to see what happens. If someone can show me that people playing their best with both kinds of guns actually produces different results, I'll change my mind. |

What you said all through this post and previous is totaly true i could be some one thats using a shocker with my 98 or even a pump gun. And what A5massacre is sying about 23 stock all your doing is replacing skill/accuracy with so much paint its not even fun your just running and shooting. No tactics no skill involved its just moving of the fingers. If the 98 is too heavy for you maybe you need to work out because its only 3.5 pounds stock and dont say o ya theres a hopper and tank to calculate into that well then your just plain weak. I would love to see you play stock class pump those players are nothing but skill they play with limited paint and air. I love the mentality you have of Amount of paint > skill this is what kills paintball people who run on the fieled no idea of team tactics and is just free for all shooting paint every where. |
