I agree with what Detrevni (aka magoo) said.
Although I dont think I will ever stop hating on 98 Platinums, Alpha Blacks, Salvos, and X7's(I dont hate on Phenoms because they arent a Model 98 with junk added to it).
I used to enjoy looking at homebrew Milsim, and the newer markers just kill it. Its always specops this, milsim that, buy buy buy.
Its the difference between buying a barely running 1973 Corvette and building one nice car in your garage, and buying a 2011 ZR1 Corvette. Building something yourself as alot of cool points.

you can still make hone made stuff. I've seen guys on x7og.net make real wood stuff for their AK kits and stuff like that.

i like how they have put the mod kits and made all the mil-sim lookin markers out. ya a lot of homebrew milsim guns look better, but not everyone has the time to do that. and as for it killing mil-sim i highly doubt that. if anything it probably attracts more (young)players because they look more like real guns.
