When i was looking for parts for my brothers truck in a friends garage, and i found 2 ammo clips (empty of course). And i wanted to know what gun they were for, might make a good clip for a milsim marker project.

They're older style M16 mags. Mags of that style were used during the vietnam era until the mid 80's by some. Well, Im pretty sure the M16 mags. But it could be an M1 Carbine mag or something. |

Yeah, they look to be the older 20 rd M16 mags. They could also be M14 mags but you really can't tell as there is nothing to compare them with.

I'm going to say AR/M-16 as the catch is high up on the mag. For an SKS/AK derivative, it would be down lower as they mag sits high in the receiver but the release is lower on the body.

Um, the Magazines have nothing to do with the weapon's designation. That magazine can be used with any variant of the M16/M4/AR15 family. The A1 is a weapon variant not a magazine variant. |

those are too big for a m-16, the m-16 used in vietnam is a .223 and that looks more like a .308 size mag but a pic with a ruler and or somthing for size comparsin would be helpfull

You missed the point. The designation "A1" has nothing to do with the magazine. A magazine is not dictated by the weapon variant. It is not an A1 magazine as it is not for the M16A1 variant exclusively. There is no such thing as an A1 magazine. Although 20rd magazines were commonly issued with A1 variant rifles, there were also 10 and 30 round mags issued with A1 rifles. I am almost positive that is a Magazine from the AR15 family of rifles. I was looking at a M-14 magazine from one of our colorguard rifles, and the top of the mag looks nothing like that. |

I was thinking it would be from the m14, but the top looks a lil different, and the spine is not centerd like most clips, it's on the right. i could take it apart, but dont know if that will help. And olskoolbully, it's not from an "m16a1" and you giving a short answer like that is not helping much. |

M-14 would have the mag catch a little lower as well though, it's a variant of the M1A1 action and stock (basically a select fire M-1 Garand with detachable mag). The upper receiver is a lot deeper on the M-14 and other M-1 variants meaning that the mag catch is lower. That's why I'm saying it's a Stoner mag.
